About

So what is The Careerist?

Simply put, The Careerist is a blog dedicated to helping you advance your career by achieving your goals. I cover all sorts of issues related to career advancement including education, networking, leadership, productivity, interview techniques, and personal finance. From time to time, I’ll also profile various professionals from a variety of industries to get their take on a number of related topics.

The Careerist Philosophy

I write The Careerist for those who hold their careers in high esteem and constantly strive for improvement in multiple facets of their lives. I think it’s also important to stress the fact that I tend to frown upon putting career-related goals in front of other higher priorities, such as friends and family. After all, who’s going to take care of you when you’re old and sickly? Your boss? Good luck with that!

Who’s behind The Careerist?

Glad you asked! My name is Jimmy Day and I’m a website content manager and developer located in Atlanta, Ga. I’m in my late twenties and have been fortunate enough to have worked for a number of successful companies, including two Fortune 500 organizations.

So what exactly makes me qualified to author a blog on career advancement strategies? Well, the last thing you’ll ever hear me do is boast, but I like to think that I’ve been pretty successful in my career thus far. After graduating college in 2002 and holding down a menial job updating various no-name websites, I’ve since tripled my salary and have had a hand in developing some of the most well known websites on the internet, including delta.com and cnn.com. In addition to the large salary increase, I’ve also taken on increased job responsibility and have made hundreds of professional connections all over the country, many of whom turn to me for career-related advice. It’s my sincere hope that I can offer you useful career advice as well.

If you’re not already, make sure to follow me on Twitter for all kinds of various tips and updates. You’ll also get a behind-the-scenes sneak peak at my day-to-day life, both the mundane and the riveting! For your convenience, I’ve also set up a Twitter account strictly for The Careerist’s blog posts, if you’d like to spare yourself from my personal anecdotes.

Lastly, if you find the information on this blog useful, I ask that you please pass the word on. Consider emailing your friends or colleagues the articles that you particularly enjoy. The more readers and the more comments, the more lively our community will be. I graciously thank you in advance for your support and look forward to interacting with you on the blog.
